The Resource Center Client Story: A Charity of the Quarter Update

Here is a recent story from The Resource Center’s Windsor Campus. It highlights how many hoops a client of theirs was having to jump through before The Resource Center was able to do the service quickly and for free.
“A client phoned our clinic, after having been in the Emergency Room the night before because of some abdominal pains. She had paid for a pregnancy test at Planned Parenthood a week or so before, so knew she was pregnant. The caregivers at the Emergency Room had told her to seek immediate follow-up care with an OB-GYN but had given her no papers to prove her pregnancy – even though they had done an ultrasound. When our client tried to make an appointment with an OB-GYN the next day, she was told she couldn’t without a PTV. PTV is a Pregnant Test Verification. It is a written document signed by a medical professional that some women need to apply for Medicaid. Our RNs provide that for FREE which is a great resource for the underprivileged who want to have their children.
She phoned Planned Parenthood to see if they could get one for her, but they told her it would be a 2+ week wait for them to refer her to a doctor who could do that. A friend told her about our clinic and so she made an appointment. We were able to give her a PTV at that first appointment because the nurse had an opening and was able to give her free prenatal vitamins, and more.
Our Earn While You Learn (EWYL) classes give incentives for attending the classes such as new baby clothes, diapers, wipes and sometimes fun baby paraphernalia. If the Father of the baby joins the mother, they both earn points towards the incentives. When I was describing our EWYL classes she stopped me mid-sentence saying “Are those free too?” She was overwhelmed with the support we could offer her. I was also able to pray with her as she had been out of work for a while and was overwhelmed. I loved being able to shower her with the love of Jesus while providing so much practical help for her needs.”
