Bulbs – In Colorado, common bulbs like tulips and daffodils need to be planted in the fall for spring blooms. Some bulbs can be planted in the spring for summer brilliance. It is best to plant spring bulbs in mid may or after the last frost of the season.
Begonias
Calla Lillies
Canna Lillies
Dahlias
Gladiolus
Elephant Ears
Annuals – Who gets confused with the differences between annuals and perennials? To help me remember, I have to say, plant ANNUALS ANNUALLY. Meaning annuals have only one life cycle and must be replanted every year. Typically plant annuals after the last frost or during the rainy season.
Lantana
Painted Daisy
Black Eyed Susan
Scaveolas
Verbena
Impatiens
Perennials – Perennials have life cycles that come back year to year. Our state flower, the Columbine, is a perennial. Debbie once told me that she has many Columbines in her flower beds but every year when they come back, they also multiply! Plant perennials well after the last threat of frost or in the rainy season.
Columbine
Prarie Coneflower
Blue Flax
Russian Sage
Coral Bells
Foxglove
